Celebrating the life of

Joseph (Peter) Brennan

March 17, 1943 - February 04, 2024

Peter’s life was well-lived, marked by dedication to others, a passion for education, and a love that knew no bounds. He remains the definition of what a man should be.

Joseph (Peter) Brennan

It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of Joseph “Peter” Brennan, who left us peacefully on February 4, 2024, in Savannah, Georgia. He was born in Liberty, New York, on St. Patrick's Day 1943 to Helen Lowery Moynihan and Arthur James Brennan.

Peter was an educator in New York City for almost thirty years working as a teacher of mathematics, a staff developer instructing teachers and administrators in using computers, and as a vice principal of administration for Tilden High School.

Though a true Brooklynite at heart, Peter was charmed by the city of Savannah, where he would eventually make his home. It was here he continued to exude kindness, intelligence, laughter and unending support to those who knew him.

Peter leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted spouse, Patti Brennan, her sons Garrett (Christine) and MacKenzie (Melissa), and grandchildren Camille, Alex, Phoebe, Eliza and Daphne; brothers-in-law Tommy (Jeannie), Michael (Margaret), sisters-in-law Maryann, and Judy; extended family Laraine (Don), Amy, Joe (Jen), Peter (Kim), grand nieces, grand nephew and a circle of relatives and friends whose lives he touched deeply. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A cause close to Peter’s heart was Parker’s House at Union Mission in Savannah, GA.  If so inclined, consider a donation in honor of Peter’s spirit of generosity and compassion.

Peter’s life was well-lived, marked by dedication to others, a passion for education, and a love that knew no bounds. He remains the definition of what a man should be.

True to himself, Peter requested no formal service. True to his Irish heritage, he asked you raise a glass remembering him kindly and do a good deed in his name.

Peter was a man with a huge heart and amazing generosity! We were so fortunate to have him in our lives and get to spend some time with him. We will miss our conversations with “The Colonel” but always smile when we think of him and his irreverent humor. Thanks Brother!

Peter was a kind man who made the communities he was part of better. He brought joy and laughter to everyone he encountered, especially his family and friends. Eliza and Daphne in particular could always count on "Pio" to find a way to make them smile and laugh. We enjoyed living vicariously through the countless adventures he shared with Nana. We are so grateful to have known him and for the love he shared with our family. He will be dearly missed.

- MacKenzie, Melissa, Eliza and Daphne, Washington, D.C.

Peter brought out the best in all of us. He was the quintessential gentleman- a descent, kind, thoughtful, generous, big hearted and funny human being. He could always make you smile. I was blessed to have him as a brother-in-law but more importantly as a friend. He will be missed.

A candle has been lit!

It seems so very hard to believe that Peter is gone. He was always so happy and full of life. We always had such fun and laughter when he came to Vermont to visit. Those times will always be favorite memories.

Words cannot express the depth of sadness we feel at the loss of our beloved “Uncle Pete”. Friend, best friend, uncle, godfather and brother, he was a kind, loving , loyal and generous man. We will love and miss him forever.
